Dr Kirmizis's CV

  • Graduated from the Medical School at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 1995.

  • Completed his specialty training in Hippokration University Hospital, in Thessaloniki, Greece in 2004. 

  • Worked as Consultant Nephrologist in several hopsitals and Dialysis Units in Greece from 2004 until 2015.

  • Continued his training in the Renal Unit at King's College Hospital in London, where he worked as Specialty doctor from 2015 until 2018. 

  • In 2018 he was appointed Senior Research fellow in the Renal Unit at King's College Hospital in London.

  • Since 2019 he has taken up the post of Consultant Nephrologist in the Department of Nephrology at Colchester General Hospital, where he continues to work in a substantive post.

  • Since 2020 he has been appointed as Home dialysis Lead in Colchester General Hospital.

  • Dr Kirmizis has been participating actively, either as clinical or educational supervisor, in the training of junior doctors and GP trainnees.

  • Since 2022 he has been collaborating with Anglia Ruskin University as a Clinical Post CCT Associate Lecturer.

  • In 2009, he was awarded a MSc in Nanotechnology from the Department of Physics, at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

  • In 2009, he was awarded a PhD in Medicine from the Department of Nephrology, Hippokration University Hospital, at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

  • From 2013 until 2015, he was appojnted as Scientific Associate at the Department of Nephrology, Hippokration University Hospital, Thessaloniki, Greece.

  • In 2013, he was awarded a Post-doc Researcher scholarship from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

  • In 2014, he was awarded a post-graduate Diploma in Diabetes from Leicester University, U.K.

  • In 2020, he was awarded a MSc in Transplantation from the University of Liverpool, U.K.

  • Dr Kirmizis has been member of the Organising Committee in the Course "Frontiers on Haemodialysis", held on 19th December 2019 at the Royal Society of Medicine, in London. He chaired two sessions at the 56th ERA Congress held in Budapest, Hungary, on 15th June 2019.

  • He is the founding Chair of the annual "Masterclass on home therapies", established in Greece in 2023.

  • He has been reviewer for more than 20 international medical journals and member of the Editorial Board of 4 international medical journals.

  • He is the founding Editor-in-chief of the electronic iNef journal, official publication of the Hellenic Association of Independent Nephrologists. 

  • He participated at the ECCE HEMO course, official e-learning course of ERA on haemodialysis (https://e-learning.era-online.org), established online in 2024. His online presentation is titled “Biocompatibility of heamodialysis treatment”.
